A practical, inclusive introduction to sex therapy fundamentals for relationship counsellors, combining evidence-based interventions with real-world applications for diverse clients and relationship structures.

This is a course for everyone who works with couples and other types of romantic relationships.  It will provide a deep dive into couples’ work and sexual issues.  It will provide models and interventions that will address common communication issues, changes in intimacy over the life of the relationship, keeping things sexy, and more.

Learn interventions to support clients in all kinds of relationships. From day to day relating to some of the more complex sexual and relationship dynamics, we have it covered. LGBTQIA++, polyamory, and CNM inclusive.

This course is PACFA, ACA and SAS approved.

This course is offered twice in 2026:

  1. Aug 27-Sep 17, Thursday 5-8pm (AEST)

  2. Nov 11 - Dec 09: Wed 8.30-11.30am


THIS COURSE COVERS

  • Common issues facing couples and romantic relationships

  • Relationships communication techniques

    • How to have a good fight

    • Negotiation skills

    • Tools to clear unresolved issues

    • Relationship pulse check: communication, patterns (useful and not useful)

  • Consent, safety and pleasure in a relationship context

  • Working with different sexual expectations

  • Understanding how external issues impact relationships

  • Factors affecting self esteem and lack of intimacy

  • Tips on how to make time and space for intimacy in long-term relationships


LEARNING OUTCOMES

  • How to set up safety in relationships so concerns can be explored

  • Working with shame

  • Communication and conflict skills for clients

  • Facilitate difficult conversations around sex and intimacy in relationships

  • Celebrating difference / working with the overlap

  • Working with all relationship types - monogamous, polyamorous, open, BDSM, LGBTQIA++
